Each year, the Avedis Donabedian Foundation honors leaders who have made significant contributions to health care excellence. We are extremely proud to announce that this year, one of our very own is the 2012 recipient of the Donabedian International Award. Angela Coulter, director of global initiatives at the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation, was honored on January 11, 2012 in Barcelona’s historic Palau de la Música for her work enhancing international health care.
The selection jury explained their decision to honor Angela in the following statement:
“Professor Coulter has been a key person in the area of measuring and improving patients’ experience. She has published more than 250 research papers, reports and several books. She was the founding editor of Health Expectations, an international peer-reviewed journal on patient and public involvement in health care and health policy. She has been always committed to patient centered care and to promote shared decision-making.
Professor Coulter is a world leader in the field of patient centered care. She embodies the spirit of purpose, the dedication to the study and passion for innovation and improvement. All her achievements have been a great influence on citizens’ health. Her leadership is remarkable in the important contributions she made in this field, both in the UK and internationally. As a result, she is clearly an outstanding leader and advocate for quality in health.”
