Shared Decision Making: The Patient Voice in Health Care
MaineHealth, an Informed Medical Decisions Foundation-funded shared decision making (SDM) demonstration site will be hosting a one-day conference on May 17th, featuring national and local experts on SDM. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend a number of sessions on topics such as end of life care, risk communication, decision aids, patient engagement and preference-sensitive care.
Dr. John E. “Jack” Wennberg, Foundation co-founder, and Dave deBronkart, known online as e-Patient Dave, will discuss unwarranted variation, shared decision making and the role of e-patients in their keynote address entitled: A Conversation Between Two Experts on Shared Decision Making.
Richard Wexler, Foundation director of patient support strategies, and Karen Sepucha, Foundation medical editor, will also be leading sessions during the conference.
We will be tweeting on behalf of MaineHealth throughout the day using the hashtag #MaineHealthSDM. We invite you to join in the conversation on Twitter. For those of you who are not able to follow the conference, we will provide a recap of the event in a blog post early next week.
