Patient Decision Aids

Patient decision aids are tools that help guide patients through the medical decision making process. They provide evidence-based information about a health condition and the health care options, including the benefits, harms and probabilities associated with each option. Decision aids come in a variety of forms, from pamphlets to interactive web-based programs. Decision aids often contain patient narratives or interviews with patients who made different health care decisions. Patients explain their reasons for pursuing a particular care option and share their thoughts on the health care they chose.
