Measuring Shared Decision Making in Practice

The Dartmouth Institute will again be hosting the Summer Institute for Informed Patient Choice this summer. The 2012 Summer Institute will focus on measurement of decision quality and shared decision making (SDM) in medical practice. There is a need for metrics of SDM and the use of efficient, valid and reliable decision support tools. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from local, national and international innovators dedicated to this challenging area of measuring SDM.

The presenters will focus on key questions, such as:

  • What is being measured now?
  • How will Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and health information technology impact and influence the measurement of shared decision making?
  • What are some examples of how measurement has been implemented into practice?
  • What are the priorities and opportunities for participants to help move this field forward?
