Research shows that patients like to watch interviews of people who have been faced with a similar decision. Hearing real people explain why they made different choices help patients better understand their options. Patient interviews are also among the most compelling and engaging features of decision aids. However, it is complicated to present interview material in a way that is balanced and fairly presents all options. If not done right, the use of personal narratives and testimonials can bias patients toward or away from particular options.
