It is estimated that over 20 million Americans have a cataract. To help individuals navigate decisions about cataracts, the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation has developed a Shared Decision-Making® program called Cataracts: Is Surgery Right for You?
The program is for adults who have been told they are candidates for cataract surgery. It describes what cataracts are and the benefits and risks of two options for managing them: watchful waiting (including new glasses) and surgery.
The program includes interviews with two patients, one who chose each option, and an ophthalmologist.
This program was developed with our production partner, Health Dialog. It is available as a booklet and a web-based program (Health Crossroads®) for Health Dialog members.
