Making a Good Night’s Sleep a Priority

At one point or another we have all experienced trouble sleeping, but for some it becomes an ongoing problem that affects quality of life. To help individuals with chronic insomnia, the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation has developed a Shared Decision-Making® program called Sleeping Better: Help for Long-Term Insomnia.

This program is for individuals who have been diagnosed with chronic insomnia. The program describes how long-term sleep problems can interfere with daily functioning and how effective treatments can improve sleep. The program also provides information on chronic insomnia treatments that have proven helpful: cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) and prescription medications.

The program presents interviews with men and women who have chronic insomnia and who have successfully worked with health care providers to improve their quality of sleep. It also features interviews with a primary care provider and a sleep specialist.

This program was developed with our production partner, Health Dialog. It is available as a DVD, a booklet and a web-based program (Health Crossroads®) for Health Dialog members.
