Purpose

Here, we propose to fill this important knowledge gap regarding recent trends in both the evidence in prostate cancer and the role of shared decision-making tools in specialty practice that will form the basis for future shared decision-making implementation research. We will perform a national survey of radiation oncologists and urologists to: 1) describe the opinions about screening and treatment recommendations for localized prostate cancer in light of current evidence; 2) determine the degree of knowledge and use of shared decision-making tools and decision aids for localized prostate cancer by these specialty clinicians; as well as 3) identify possible barriers to adoption of decision aids in clinical practice for these specialists, and identify distinguishing characteristics of decision aid adopters compared to resistors.
