Purpose
The aims of this work are to develop and validate decision quality instruments (DQI) to be used on a population basis to assess the quality of decisions.
Specific aim 1: To conduct large field tests of breast cancer surgery and colorectal cancer screening.
Specific aim 2: To finish drafting instruments and cognitively test items for 13 common conditions.
Specific aim 3: To conduct small field tests of other priority conditions including breast cancer adjuvant therapy, breast reconstruction, herniated disc, and hip and knee osteoarthritis, menopause and depression.
Specific aim 4: To examine performance of the instruments in underserved populations and non English speaking populations.
Findings
The field tests in the last year show that the items on the whole are performing as intended, and patients find the surveys acceptable and feasible. There is growing interest in the research community to use these instruments, and we have been exploring interest in clinical community to extend their use.
