The Effect of a Decision Aid on the Quality of Colon Cancer Screening

Purpose

The primary goal of this study is to determine whether the decision aid increases patient knowledge about colon cancer screening. The secondary goal of the study is to assess the degree to which use of the decision aid affects participants’ values and actual choice of particular screening tests.

Specific Aim 1: To understand whether exposure to the decision aid increases participants’ knowledge of colon cancer and different screening options.

Specific Aim 2: To understand whether exposure to the decision aid increases value concordance.

Specific Aim 3: To examine whether exposure to the educational intervention is associated with screening behavior.
