The Effect of the Institutionalization of Medical Care on Patient Informed Consent

  • Primary Investigator:
    Melissa Constantine
  • Primary Location:
    University of Minnesota
  • Grant Type & Year:
    George Bennett Spring 2006

Purpose

To determine the association between the process of obtaining informed consent and the three constructs of informed consent: intentionality, understanding and freedom from controlling influence.

Findings

Sample of 80 survey respondents showed that 10% of sample either didn’t know they had screen or did not want screen but had it anyways, which shows that institutionalization of procedures may cause compromises of quality IC and ones role in decision-making.
